Cultivating equity in the performing arts

"The world is before you and you need not take it or leave it as it was when you came in."
                                                        - James Baldwin

Our mission is to provide students from historically marginalized communities access to performing arts events and theater technology training: the seeds from which participation in the arts grow.

Our Initiatives

Performing Arts Access

Art is a powerful thing.  It can be transformative. Unfortunately the cost of admission to the performing arts can be a prohibitive barrier for many families.  We’re working to expand opportunities to provide subsidized tickets to students, regardless of income, making the performing arts more accessible to all.

In July 2024 we partnered with American Players Theatre to give Vel Phillips Memorial H.S. drama students the chance to see their production of Much Ado About Nothing.  Quickly on the heels of that we took a group of students from Lussier Education Center’s Youth Action Summer Internship program to see Moulin Rouge! at Overture Center for the Arts, and just recently we provided that same group with tickets to see Hamilton along with the opportunity to go up on stage after the show and meet some of the cast and crew, during the students' already-scheduled weeklong trip to NYC.

Backstage Diversification

We believe that increased representation in the backstage workforce is vital for creating a more inclusive environment in the performing arts industry.

Our initiative focuses on diversifying the backstage workforce through targeted recruitment efforts as well as providing middle school students with access to theater technology and training programs with a goal of creating enough of a spark in some students that they choose to continue their learning journey in high school.
